Practical tips to encourage hands on learning

Blooming the knack of loving what they learn in children is of primary importance. Instead of listening to normal commands from parents, caretakers or teachers, children always strive to incorporate some of their own instincts in whatever they do either through their body actions or by sharing mental thoughts. When kids are allowed to sense and understand the lessons or activities that they grasp, by themselves, the depth of their comprehension will be enhanced in multiple fonds. Hands on learning technique has been adopted widely by parents and educators as an effective strategy to encourage the participation of kids in all the ventures they are engaged in.

Hands on learning is proven to develop lifelong love for learning in children which can benefit them with better academical performance skills. Hands on learning promotes and compels children to complete tasks without being instructed or being assisted by an instructor. Children are motivated to adapt with the obstructions and to come with ideas for tackling the problems which they faced in each of the activities, rather than solving artificial designed difficulties.

This training approach can help children not only in the budding steps of learning, but it can guide them in latter stages of studies in maths, science, art, instrumentation etc. Skillsets of children varies by individual. Some learn faster through visual, auditory, reading and writing methods, while some others find it easier by doing it by their own. Hand on learning makes children engaged in active learning thereby increasing feasible critical thinking ability. It paves way for learning through opportunities by actively creating knowledge in contrary to conventional methods which highlight passive following of acts.Fostering and practicing hands on training skills from home at a very young age will help kids develop confidence and brain coordination. Here are some practical tips to enhance hands on learning training in kids.

Introduce them to real world experiences

Instigating day to day life activities like cleaning, cooking, gardening, folding clothes etc. can excite children a lot. They tend to enjoys watching these duties when parents perform households and find pleasure in copying and doing it in their own ways. Appreciate their helps even though it is not a big deal. Engage them in activities like sorting, cutting, pottery, moulding etc. which will help them master practical real world applications like shoe lace tying, holding pen etc. This can develop self-discipline and other important behavioural and physical skills in the later part of their life. Experiencing and understanding the basic things by themselves can benefit children in adopting conceptualized learning rather than being simply told about the existence of these activities.

Encourage practical multi-tasking skills

Hands on learning can stimulate growth of brain. Undertaking multiple activities which include touching, listening, speaking at same time, thereby utilizing all the senses highly escalates the pace of children in learning almost all the lessons. It can not only shoot up creative aptitude and imagination skills but also elevates organising and problem solving competency.

Practice memory boosting activities

Movements of body is directly connected to brain. When children start taking lessons or doing activities; encourage them to store it in memory so that they can do it by themselves next time. For example, when they start learning to count, motivate them to physically feel the quantity representing the numbers by counting them. Fruits, match sticks, vegetables etc. can be used for this purpose. These hands on learning gestures makes them perceive the relevance of what they are learning and its applicability in real world experiences. Same applies when they learn about colours. Just reading or being told about colours is a practically impossible way to make them differentiate between colours. Take them to interact with nature and let them understand by their own in what colour does leaves, flowers, trees appear. Also, teach them mixing of colours by making them blending different colours of their choice and let them analyse how it varies from original.

Promote creative dexterity

Making hands on learning creative can make children acquire expertise in artistry and interest in inventiveness. Some parents fear making children creative will divert their concentration from conceptual studies. But, being creative does not always refer to be skill-full in music or art, sometimes it is about imagination that children require to picture things that they learn. For example, to draw a picture that they did not came through in real life requires imagination and creativity. To present a story, they need to visualise the set-up in mind first to explain it to others. This aptitude can help them even after growing up, because conceptual visualisation is essential in every field of study either it is technical or scientific.

As highlighted, there are a lot of ways children try to perceive knowledge. But proven studies confirm that the lessons they learn by hands on learning stays with them for life long. Because they get to engage completely in the entire learning process and get to abstract the whole idea to brain which can automatically increase their grasping power.
